Bob and Linda Hallam have a vision, in more ways than one: a vision of creating a leading company in the hot tub industry, a vision of helping local organizations, and now, a Vision cartridge.
Since 1977, the Hallams family has owned and operated Dimension One Spas, a leading business in the hot tub industry with 400 employees, a 135,000-square-foot spa facility in Vista, California, and over 700 dealers all over the world. In the 1970s, Bob and Linda transformed the hot tub industry by venturing away from the traditional round, in-the-ground hot tub. 30 years later, the business has combined its advancements in materials science and water handling technology to bring customers spas that help users rejuvenate their bodies and minds.
Several years ago, D1 Spas adopted The Vision of Children as its corporate charity. Knowing VOC's mission, Bob and Linda were attracted to organization’s strong emphasis on families and support. Since the adoption of VOC as their corporate philanthropy, Dimension One Spas has donated well over $100,000 to support VOC’s mission. As Sam Hardage, VOC Chairman, expresses, “The Hallams are great supporters and wonderful friends. Their ongoing support has made some powerful research possible to help treat and cure vision disorders.”
D1 Spas has another kind of vision—a cartridge. Sold as an accompaniment to the spas, the Vision cartridge utilizes silver to eliminate bacteria, minimize chlorine usage, and reduce skin and eye irritation. “When Columbus, Magellan, and the ancient sea-faring explorers traveled, they stored fresh water in barrels,” Cassi Hallam, Director of Corporate Communications, describes. “Unfortunately, sitting water in a wooden barrel becomes a bacteria breeding ground. To eliminate this danger, crews threw silver coins into the barrel. Although they didn’t know that the high amount of silver in the coins killed bacteria, they did know that the coins made the water drinkable.” The Vision cartridge employs this long-standing procedure to keep Dimension One’s spas in optimal condition.
Last year, D1 Spas sold 28,000 Vision cartridges. Because of its obvious name connection to The Vision of Children, Bob and Linda Hallam recently announced that $1 of every cartridge sale will be donated to The Vision of Children. To bolster the pledge, D1 Spas provided VOC with a $30,000 check from last year’s cartridge sales. “My goal is to double this amount this year!” declares Bob Hallam, owner of Dimension One Spas.
Equipped with a full marketing plan and positive attitude, The Vision of Children has no doubt that once again, the Hallams will make this vision a reality.
