Books & Braille Interactive Sessions
The Vision of Children Foundation’s Books and Braille Interactive Sessions are monthly, family-friendly program designed to introduce young children to Braille, tactile learning, and the many ways children can experience books and stories.
Hosted at public libraries throughout the San Diego area, each workshop will provide an engaging and inclusive environment for children under age 10 and their parents or caregivers. Children will have the opportunity to explore Braille and tactile books, participate in a vision-themed arts and crafts activity, and enjoy an interactive story time led by a Vision of Children Foundation team member. Each child will also receive a tactile or sensory goodie bag to continue exploring at home.
Light, kid-friendly refreshments will be provided for participating families. Workshops are planned for approximately 30 children and their accompanying parent or caregiver.
Purpose & Program Elements
The purpose of Books and Braille is to introduce children and families to Braille, tactile literacy, and vision accessibility in a fun and approachable setting while creating greater awareness and understanding of childhood visual impairment. Through hands-on activities and inclusive storytelling, Vision of Children hopes to encourage curiosity, empathy, and an appreciation for the different ways children read, learn, and experience the world. The workshops also provide an opportunity for Vision of Children to connect with local families and libraries and expand awareness of the Foundation’s mission and resources throughout the San Diego community.
