About the Event

The Vision of Children Foundation (VOC) recently hosted its biennial “A Night for Sight” fundraising concert, featuring legendary rock icons Jefferson Starship, proudly presented by Premium West Construction, at The Sound at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on October 18. Vision of Children — whose mission is to cure hereditary childhood blindness and other genetic vision disorders and to improve the lives of visually impaired children and their families — raised over $625,000 toward finding cures for hereditary childhood blindness and genetic vision disorders.

The “Out of This World” evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a gourmet three-course dinner, a spirited live auction, and a dynamic performance by Jefferson Starship that had guests on their feet and singing along to the band’s timeless hits.

The Scott family from Canada deeply moved attendees, who shared their heartfelt story of their son living with Oculocutaneous Albinism and the hope they’ve found through The Vision of Children Foundation’s research and programs.

The event was co-chaired by Marian Benassi, Courtney Liddy, Kirstjen Nielsen, and MJ Wittman, and made possible through the generosity of Title Sponsor Premium West Construction, Inc., along with our co-sponsors Courtney McDonald-Liddy with The Liddy Group at UBS Financial Services, Inc., Ron & Maureen McMahon Family, and Robert Barth and Nicole Frank.

A Night for Sight embodies our mission of bringing hope to families affected by vision loss while advancing research toward a cure,” said Sam and Vivian Hardage, founders of The Vision of Children Foundation. “We are so grateful for our sponsors, supporters, and everyone who helped make this evening truly out of this world.

Proceeds from “A Night for Sight” will help fund cutting-edge genetic research and support programs that improve the quality of life for children and families affected by hereditary vision disorders. VOC is proud to announce funding for two new research projects: Susana da Silva, Ph.D, at The University of Pittsburgh, and Jonathan Zippin, M.D., Ph.D., at Cornell University — both focused on advancing understanding and treatments for genetic vision disorders.
